He was poet, critic, broadcaster and commentator of literary subjects. He was a teacher and wrote poems for school books as well.
Sufi Tabassum also wrote some super hit songs for movies. His Ghazal:
(sung by Naseem Begum, composed by Rasheed Atrray in film Sham Dhalay in 1960) was a mega hit film song.
Sufi Tabassum translated Mirza Ghalib's Persian poem in Punjabi language, which was sung by Ghulam Ali in film Ek Thi Larki in 1973:
Sufi Tabassum wrote some super hit patriotic songs during 1965-Indo-Pak war. Two of these songs were sung by Madam Noorjahan and the first was filmed in Punjabi film Prohna in 1966:
