Saqi began his film career from a Hollywood film Bhowani Junction in 1955. He spoke English fluently and became assistant to the film production unit in Lahore. He also played a role in this international film which was partially made in Pakistan, it was released in 1956.
Saqi was seen in his first Pakistani film Iltija in 1955. He was hero with Nighat Sultana in films like Lakhpati (1958), Sassi Punnu (1958) and Bombay Wala (1961). He played leading roles in films like Nagin (1959), Raat Kay Rahi (1960) and Hazar Dastan (1965). His supporting role in film Lakhon Mein Ek (1967) was another memorable role. He was seen in almost 500 movies in Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi and Pashto languages. He produced two movies, Papi (1968) and Hamlog (1970) but did no succeed.
Saqi (real name Abdul Latif Baloch) was born on April 2, 1925 in Baghdad, Iraq, where his father was settled for a while. He belongs to Dadu, Sindh in a Baloch family and he was married to Yasmin Khan who was the first super star Pashto film heroine. He introduced two big male singers Masood Rana and Mujeeb Alam and his younger brother Abdul Karim Baloch was general manager of Karachi Television Center. He died on December 22, 1986.
